H&I is a well-established training organisation, founded by Ian Sparkes in April 2014, specialising in civil construction training for both new and experienced operators.

All our Qualifications are nationally recognised and issued through our partnering RTO Civil Trained 22585.

All HRW assessments are conducted by our SafeWork Accredited Assessors.

All training/assessments are delivered in full compliance with the requirements of ASQA and SafeWork.

Ian Sparkes – Director

Established H&I Safety and Training in 2014 and have grown to a staff base of 10 employees. With a background in the Army, Civil and WH&S. Ian is able to provide your business with the expertise to create SWMS and Plant Risk Assessments tailored to your needs.

Helen Sparkes - Director

Helen is a proud part of the family behind H&I Safety and Training. As Ian’s wife, she’s been involved since the very beginning, offering support, guidance, and a steady hand behind the scenes. Her values of honesty, hard work, and family are woven into the heart of the business. While she may not always be front and centre, Helen’s quiet commitment and care help create the supportive, family-focused environment that H&I is known for.

Nicky Hackney – Compliance Manager

Nicky ensures efficiency, productivity and customer satisfaction in the day to day operation of our company. Nicky comes from an RTO Administrator role, with an understanding of the VET Sector and NVR Standards assisting with the development of procedures and training materials to meet industry needs and expectations.

Ken Constable – Trainer

Joining the team 2017, with 9 years of experience in the civil construction and mining sector. Ken is an integral part of the H&I team, delivering training and assessment on Sydney's major projects including Sydney Metro and West Connex. Ken is willing to go above and beyond to ensure trainees have the skills and knowledge to succeed in this ever changing industry.

Chris McDaniel – Trainer

Joining the team 2018, with over 13 years experience in civil construction working for tier one companies of many of Sydney's major construction projects. Chris is a qualified Trainer and Assessor expanding his skills and passing on his knowledge to the new guys on those very sites he helped to construct. Chris is a great asset to H&I and will move mountains to get the job done.

Damien Boshammer – Trainer

Boshy as he is affectionately known has been a full-time trainer with H&I since 2018. Coming from a warehousing background, and moving to the Civil Industry, Boshy has proven himself to be a leader in training. There is never a dull moment when Boshy is your trainer, from in depth discussions to dancing, he is always ready to go that extra step to ensure your training experience is one you will never forget.

Andrew Woods – Trainer

Joining the team in 2023, Andrew brings years of hands-on experience as an operator. Stepping away from the day-to-day of operating machinery, he now shares his industry knowledge and practical skills with the next generation. Andrew is passionate about passing on his expertise and setting students up for success in the field.

Steve Doyle – Trainer

Steve joined the team in 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience from years working in the Safework NSW space. As a highly skilled High-Risk Work (HRW) trainer, he is passionate about delivering quality training across Forklift, Over 11m Boomlift, Slewing Mobile Crane (up to 60T), and Dogman courses. Steve’s depth of knowledge and dedication to safety makes him a valuable asset to both our team and our students.

Courtney Tainton – Accounts Manager

Joining the team in 2018, with qualifications in Business. Courtney oversees all aspects of supervising business operations, as well as related fields which include accounting, finance, marketing and business growth. Courtney is Qualified in Business Administrations.

Grace Galluzzi - Admin Assistant

Grace joined the team in 2024 with a background in administration. She is quickly learning the ins and outs of the training industry while supporting the team with student management, data filing, and accounts. Grace brings a positive attitude and a willingness to grow in her role.
